Window.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> <\/span>Fill out the following information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px;\">Tournament Name<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Tournament Players<\/li>\n<li>Tournament Machines \/ Events<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Step 3:<\/span><\/strong> Click the &#8220;Start\u00a0Tournament&#8221; Button.<\/p>\n<h2>Other Functions:<\/h2>\n<h3><a name=\"multiplerounds\"><\/a>Multiple Rounds on same machine \/ event<\/h3>\n<p>When entering a machine or event into the application, you have the ability to add a certain number of rounds to each one. \u00a0What this will do is add the machine or event multiple times to the list with a [R1], [R2], etc. after the name denoting the round number. \u00a0<strong>These rounds will score exactly the same as an individual machine<\/strong>. \u00a0This functionality is designed to save time entering names when there are multiple rounds.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"lowscoregame\"><\/a>Low Score Game<\/h3>\n<p>Low Score game functionality is one that was put in place for fun. \u00a0This function will score the machine \/ event in reverse based on score. \u00a0For instance, the winner will be the one with the lowest score. \u00a0This is great for EM pinball machines where each player tries to get the lowest score possible.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"importmachines\"><\/a>Import Machine \/ Event list from text file<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_213\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/MachineList1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-213\" class=\"size-medium \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-213\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Example Machine \/ Event text file contents<\/p><\/div>\n<p>You also have the ability to load a list of machines \/ events from a text file. \u00a0This will save a huge amount of time when you have a static list of machines or events that you use on a frequent basis. \u00a0The text file needs to be a list of machines or events where each one is on its own line. \u00a0(see screenshot)<\/p>\n<p>After importing a list, you can edit this list using the standard functionality of this application.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"exportmachines\"><\/a>Export Machine \/ Event list to text file<\/h3>\n<p>Similar to the Import feature, this function allows you to export the list of machines \/ events that you created to a text file for future use. \u00a0It will automatically put it in the correct format.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a name=\"running\"><\/a>3. \u00a0Running a Tournament<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Once you have your\u00a0tournament\u00a0setup, you are now ready to actually run it. \u00a0Below are the the essential topics you will need to know about when running a tournament.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"scoreentry\"><\/a>Score Entry<\/h3>\n<p>There are a few different ways to enter scores into the software. \u00a0First things first, be sure that you have started a tournament and that you are currently on the &#8220;Score Entry&#8221; tab on the main window.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Option 1:<\/strong> <\/span>Select the player name and the machine \/ event name from the dropdown boxes and enter the score. \u00a0Once you are happy with the score entered, you can submit the score.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Option 2:<\/strong> <\/span>Click on the intersection of the Player and Machine on the spreadsheet. \u00a0This will automatically select the appropriate combination in the dropdown boxes and set the cursor in the score entry box.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Score Entry Validation:<\/strong> <\/span>There are 2 validations that occur to help ensure the accuracy of the scores being entered in the system. \u00a0The first validation will display a box that will confirm the score being entered. \u00a0The second validation will check to ensure that there is not already a score for that player and machine combination. \u00a0If it detects that you are overwriting a score, it will show a warning.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"pointsawarded\"><\/a>Viewing Points Awarded<\/h3>\n<p>To view points by player and game, click on the &#8220;Points&#8221; tab. \u00a0This will show a matrix of how many points each player earned per machine \/ event.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"standings\"><\/a>Viewing Standings<\/h3>\n<p>The overall standings are located in the &#8220;Standings&#8221; tab. \u00a0This tab will show a list of each player ranked by total points for all machines \/ events. \u00a0You can also view total points, total games played, and payout results.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"breakoutwindow\"><\/a>Utilizing the Standings Breakout Window<\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/BreakoutWindow.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-475\" alt=\"BreakoutWindow\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/BreakoutWindow-300x225.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/BreakoutWindow.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The Standings Breakout Window is a huge asset when running a tournament if you have an external monitor or projector plugged into your computer. \u00a0The standings breakout window will show a large spreadsheet of scores and a Marquee across the top with the current tournament standings. \u00a0Please see the Marquee Data Settings section for\u00a0customization.<\/p>\n<p>To display the Standings Breakout Window click on the View menu and select &#8220;Standings Breakout Window&#8221;. \u00a0This will open the window and allow you to drag it to your external monitor or projector.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"payout\"><\/a>Setting up Tournament Payout<\/h3>\n<p>To setup payout for your tournament, you need to fill out the Payout Options tab under the main Options section. \u00a0Please reference the Payout Options section of this document for information on how to set this up.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"publishing\"><\/a>Publishing Tournament Results<\/h3>\n<p>Once the tournament is complete, you can publish the tournament results to the web by selecting &#8220;Tools&#8221; and then &#8220;Publish Final Scores&#8221;. \u00a0You will be provided a URL to share once published. \u00a0You can share and access this URL from anywhere.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a name=\"utilities\"><\/a>4. \u00a0Tournament Runtime Utilities<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p>To access the Runtime Utilities section of the application, on the Tournament Manager main window, click the &#8220;Runtime Utilities&#8221; Tab.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"addplayer\"><\/a>Add Player<a style=\"font-size: 13px;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/RuntimeUtilitites.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-226 alignright\" alt=\"RuntimeUtilitites\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/RuntimeUtilitites-300x252.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/RuntimeUtilitites-300x252.png 300w, https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/RuntimeUtilitites.png 695w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>It is very common to need to add a player during an active tournament. \u00a0This functionality will allow a user to be added to an active tournament on the fly. \u00a0Obviously, you cannot add a player with the same name of one that is already in the tournament.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"removeplayer\"><\/a>Remove Player<\/h3>\n<p>Similar to the Add Player\u00a0functionality\u00a0 this utility will remove a player from the tournament and delete all of their data. \u00a0Please note that there is no undo function for this. \u00a0Once the player is removed, the player data is gone for good.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"addmachine\"><\/a>Add Machine \/ Event<\/h3>\n<p>Want to extend your current\u00a0tournament? \u00a0This option will add a new machine or event to your tournament. \u00a0Just like adding a player,\u00a0you cannot add a machine or event with the same name of one that is already in the tournament.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"removemachine\"><\/a>Replace \/ Remove Machine or Event<\/h3>\n<p>Once in a while, a machine will break down and need to be swapped with another. \u00a0This option will allow you to either swap out teh machine with a new one or remove it completely. \u00a0Either way, there is no undo for this function and all machine \/ event data will be removed from the tournament.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a name=\"options\"><\/a>5. \u00a0Advanced Tournament Options<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Options-ScoringOptions.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-279\" alt=\"ScoringOptions\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Options-ScoringOptions-300x252.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Options-ScoringOptions-300x252.png 300w, https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Options-ScoringOptions.png 695w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><a name=\"scoringoptions\"><\/a>Scoring Options<\/h3>\n<p>To show the Tournament Scoring Options, click on the options tab and then the &#8220;Scoring Options&#8221; subtab.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Linear Scoring: \u00a0<\/span>This option is\u00a0the\u00a0default for new tournaments, and is the most common form of tournament scoring. \u00a0The way this scoring works is it assigns points based on the number of players in the tournament. \u00a0For instance, if you have a tournament with 10 players, the first place player for a machine \/ event will get 10 points. \u00a0Second Place will get 9 points, and so on. \u00a0The last placed player will get 1 point. \u00a0With this option, please be aware that point totals will change if you add or remove players from the tournament.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">IFPA Scoring: \u00a0<\/span>The International Flipper Pinball Association (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifpapinball.com\/\">http:\/\/www.ifpapinball.com\/<\/a>), uses a different type of scoring. \u00a0Although it is similar to Linear Scoring, it is different because it does not vary based on the amount of players in the tournament. \u00a0The scoring scheme is as follows. \u00a0First Place will earn 100 points, second gets awarded 90 points, third gets 85 points, fourth gets 84 points, and it counts down from that for the top 87 players. \u00a0The person in 87th place gets 1 point and any lower than that and 0 points are awarded.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_272\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/CustomScoring1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-272\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-272\" alt=\"Scott's Custom Scoring Template Example\" #ff6600;\">Custom Scoring: \u00a0<\/span>Custom scoring allows you to create your own custom scoring template. \u00a0This template is simply a text file with a list of numbers. \u00a0First place will be awarded the amount of points in the first row of the text file, second place will get the points from the 2nd row, and so on. \u00a0I have included a custom scoring example along with the application as an example. \u00a0You can also see a screenshot of this example file to the right. \u00a0&#8211;&gt;<\/p>\n<p>First, create your custom scoring template as a text file, then change the extension from &#8220;.txt&#8221; to &#8220;.tcs&#8221;. \u00a0You can then click on the custom scoring button and load in your template.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Score Entry Validation: \u00a0<\/span>The score entry validation section is where you can enable of disable notifications when entering scores. \u00a0The first\u00a0check-box\u00a0will enable or disable the score entry notification that appears by default. \u00a0This message can be very annoying for large data entry exercises. \u00a0The second\u00a0check-box\u00a0will enable or disable the score overwrite warning that\u00a0appears\u00a0when entering a score over the top of another. \u00a0This box should always be checked as a best practice.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Options-MarqueeData.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-280\" alt=\"Options-MarqueeData\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Options-MarqueeData-300x252.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"252\" 695w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><a name=\"marqueeoptions\"><\/a>Marquee Data Options<\/h3>\n<p>The Marquee Data options allow you to customize the Marquee data that gets displayed on the Standings Breakout Window and the optional Alpha \/ BetaBrite sign.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">View By: \u00a0<\/span>This\u00a0section\u00a0allows you to select if you would like to view the top players overall or display the leader on each machine. \u00a0When changing between types, the marquee data will update immediately.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Other Options: \u00a0<\/span>This section is only relevant when viewing by Player Rankings. \u00a0You can select to show Lowest Score Statistics and customize how many top positions are shown within the marquee data.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"breakoutoptions\"><\/a>Breakout Window Options<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/BreakoutWindowOptions.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-473\" style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Breakout Window Marquee: \u00a0<\/span>In this section you can enable or disable the marquee on the top of the breakout window. \u00a0You can also select the font type and color.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Highlight Standings: \u00a0<\/span>This section is used to customize the cell highlights in the breakout window. \u00a0You can enable or disable highlighting and optionally use Olympic (Gold, Silver, Bronze) coloring.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Breakout Window Autoscoller Settings: \u00a0<\/span>If you are running a tournament that has more players than can fit in the breakout window, you can enable the Autoscroller and the breakout window will scroll up and down automatically showing all players. \u00a0You can also adjust the speed of the Autoscroller in this section.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Breakout Window Font Settings:<\/span> \u00a0In this section you can customize the font size and column width of the Breakout Window. \u00a0You can select from a few different font profiles and even override the width of the &#8220;Name&#8221; column if needed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/BetaBriteOptions.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-286\" BetaBrite or Alpha LED Display. \u00a0I did a nice\u00a0write-up\u00a0on how to properly connect an <a title=\"How to Connect an LED Sign to The Arcade Tournament Manager\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/?p=130\">LED Sign to The Arcade Tournament Manager<\/a> that is a great starting point if you want to use one of these signs.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">BetaBrite Interface Settings: \u00a0<\/span>This section is the first that you need to fill out. \u00a0You will need to know which COM port that your LED sign is connected to. \u00a0First, select the correct COM port, and then click the &#8220;Primary Display Output Enabled&#8221; checkbox. \u00a0After the Sign is\u00a0successfully\u00a0connected, you can then modify the other options.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Inactive\u00a0Tournament\u00a0Standby Message: \u00a0<\/span>Here, you can send a message to the connected BetaBrite sign when there is no active tournament. \u00a0This is useful for when you are setting up a tournament and want to let people know where to register and when the\u00a0tournament\u00a0will be starting.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Active Tournament Settings: \u00a0<\/span>This section allows you to customize the content displayed on the LED Sign. \u00a0You can select a transition for you\u00a0Tournament\u00a0name, select and optional Public Service Announcement (PSA), and set a custom message that will appear after the tournament name on the display.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Display Refresh Delay After Score Entry: \u00a0<\/span>After entering a new score into the system, the LED sign will need to be refreshed. \u00a0This delay is used so that if you are entering many scores at once, it will wait for\u00a0the\u00a0specified amount of seconds before refreshing the scores to the LED Display. \u00a0It can be very annoying for people watching the display if the display get cleared and refreshed every time you enter a new score. \u00a0This option does not affect the Breakout Window.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottdanesi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/PayoutOptions.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-287\" alt=\"PayoutOptions\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><a name=\"payoutoptions\"><\/a>Payout Options<\/h3>\n<p>In this section, you will find a bunch of text input boxes. \u00a0The first thing you will need to fill out is the total Tournament Pot. \u00a0After this value has been filled out, you will then need to decide how you are going to\u00a0disperse\u00a0this dollar amount\u00a0among\u00a0the tournament players. \u00a0The application currently only allows for up to the top 8 players and the house to receive a payout.<\/p>\n<p>To set the payout amounts you must enter a percentage in each textbox. \u00a0Please keep in mind that the number is represented as a decimal between 0 and 1. \u00a01 representing 100% payout. \u00a0For example 50% would be represented by &#8220;.50&#8221;. \u00a0You must also ensure that your total payout equals 100%. \u00a0The system will warn you if this value is incorrect.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a name=\"bestpractices\"><\/a>6. \u00a0Tournament Best Practices<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Below is a list of best practices that we have come up with over the years. \u00a0It is a good idea to use these during your tournament. \u00a0I will be posting more of these soon.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px;\">Score Sheets: \u00a0This application has the ability to create printable score sheets to help ensure the accuracy of scores entered. \u00a0You can generate and print these score sheets by going to the tools menu and click &#8220;Generate Printable Score Sheet&#8221;. \u00a0This will generate a file with a list of all the machines \/ events and a place to enter the player name at the top.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Backup Scores: \u00a0Backing up scores is a pretty important thing. \u00a0If your hard drive were to crash during a tournament, you would have to start entering scores all over again. \u00a0The best way to deal with this is to backup the\u00a0tournament\u00a0data to a flash drive by clicking on the file menu, selecting &#8220;Backup Tournament Data&#8221;, and selecting the flash drive. \u00a0This will make a backup of the &#8220;TRN&#8221; file that you can simply
